About the video:
UK-based interactive TV design company, Pushbutton, has developed a slot machine application for BSkyB's Sky Vegas interactive TV gaming service. Dubbed Juicy Jackpot 2 (and building on an earlier version of the app), the new app, which was designed by Sky and which is now live and available 24/7, lets viewers make bets of 20 pence and up for the chance to win a substantial progressive jackpot prize, as well as
various other payouts based on the traditional single-line "fruit machine" format. The game also offers a picture-in-picture mode that lets viewers continue to watch linear TV while playing it. According to Pushbutton, this picture-in-picture functionality and the new application's animated user interface presented particular technical challenges for its development
team. "Our team worked closely with designers and technical staff at Sky over a long period to achieve this great-looking result," Pushbutton's development director, James Cumberbatch, said in a prepared statement. "We've managed to squeeze what are effectively two games--one full-screen and one picture-in-picture--into the bandwidth often allocated
for just one." According to Pushbutton's managing director, Paula Byrne, the company will be working with Sky on a number of additional games throughout the rest of 2008 and beyond. Last year, the company developed an interactive TV guidance and reminders service for Sky that is targeted at customers without PVR set-top boxes.
